Understanding Living in Christ: A Spiritual Journey

in my opinion to live in Christ is a rare experience that so few achieve. I really wonder if Jesus was really wondering if there would be any who truly believe when he returns.

Jesus said “I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8

obviously to be In Christ is not an easy thing and just because a believer says they are in Christ doesn’t make it true. There are signs that you are in Christ and definite ways to practice this state of mind. I think it is far more complicated than openly declaring it.

my opinion based on reading mostly Paul’s works on this matter is that it is a battle to be in Christ because we are physical beings and being in Christ requires a serious spiritual change, which translates as an extreme physical change. It’s tough!

I can only believe that I am in Christ when what I consider to be “me” disappears and gets replaced with the mind of Christ. This work requires the Holy Spirits influence because to enter into our soul and actively enter Christ (consciousness) with the soul means that we somehow cross the physical/spiritual “veil”, where the physical no longer exists.

for me that requires a long period of stillness and silence externally and internally. The human mind can only be stilled by great effort. It is difficult but I can attest that it is not impossible. Sadly it is extremely difficult to remain and abide in Christ in this manner.

I am coming to believe that the Holy Spirit can only come to us when he can rest in an empty vessel. This has nothing to do with what we do, but on the spirits willingness. I may think that I can “invoke” the spirit but if I do I am forgetting that I am dealing with a “Holy God”. I am always presumptuous in thinking that anything I do can please god.

Pauls letter to the Philippians says

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

we also have to come to this place of humility.
