Navigating Spiritual Overload: Embracing Rest in Faith

I think god does ‘make us to lie down”. I am not sure humans are able to be engaged with god intensely for more than a few hours at a time. I find mornings to be the ideal timeblock for intensity. I have every day, all day free and open and I get quite tired trying to be engaged with god for hours on end. So sometimes I think God makes me to lie down. Sometimes I just feel overloaded with thinking about god. It is a bitter sweet thing because dwelling in Christ is always SWEET! My ‘flesh” HATES it though!

This is where a prayer like the Jesus prayer, which can be done passively, fills the days with a mental activity that isn’t intensely spiritual but is still on the right track. This half-spirituality may not be a pure dwelling In Christ but it is a better alternative to filling heart with pursuits that are absolutely useless like TV, or computer games. These fleshly pursuits may not be harmful, but they are not edifying either. At least the name of Jesus on my lips and in my mind serve as a neutral activity.
