The Meaning of Meaningful Prayer

Prayer should be meaningful.

What does that mean?

I can only say what I believe. What I believe changes as I learn new things. Certain beliefs I have cemented seemingly permanently in my experience,  in my grey matter.

So about prayer I have strong feelings about and they are of course a work in progress, as I am also a work in progress.

Meaningful prayer is inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Christians are always caught in a catch22. We sometimes feel that god isn’t doing ‘signs and wonders’ and we feel the need, which is completely OUR desire, to make stuff happen. The main reason I think we don’t see signs and wonders is because our own lives with god are lacking. In my opinion god does signs and wonders in my life all the time , and I can honestly point to them. God is real and god acts. If you want mountains being moved I see spiritual mountains being moved regularly. I do like the Mohammed/mountain story. See here.

Of course if I meaningfully inwardly digest, and with heartfelt volition, believe the set, written prayers, as some churches repeatedly use, then those repetitive prayers are legitimate. I only ask the question “how meaningful are rote prayers. I humbly believe that Jesus thought the same way about some prayers.

The solution to this catch22?  Let god work in your life. When he is blooming spiritually in you, listen for his voice and if his spirit says “tell people about Me (Jesus)” then ask Jesus “how do you want me to do this?” When god asked Moses to lead Israel, Moses had a few things to say and god was Ok with that. I just strongly feel that gods will is personal. If 100 people get the same message from god, then yes it is a movement.  If you get a message from god, you may be on your own. Christian assumption is just as bad as nonspiritual peoples assumptions.
