Spiritual musing

Thoughts on God and truth

the word is FOOD!

Reading the bible is not a legalistic thing. Anything to do with Jesus and the spirit is the opposite of legalism. The bible is FOOD. Humanity has been given the words in the bible as a source of spiritual nourishment. When I am starving am I thinking about a preacher telling me I MUST READ THE BIBLE? No! I grab so hard on to Jesus as if he is my only hope. Jesus in found in the words.

There is a law of the spirit. Reading the bible, armed with some faith and expectation of god speaking, taps into a law of the spirit. The words of the bible may actually Be the law of the spirit. Even the Torah holds the spirit, holds Jesus. Don’t revere the words themselves, but let the Holy Spirit speak to you through those words.

There isn’t much magic in the words themselves, though many passages in the bible are wonderfully poetic. God even expresses humour throughout the bible. You have to have ‘eyes to see’, which means you have to ‘come to the table and eat’, which is to say throw aside all ideas and preconceived notions about the bible, maybe swallow your pride, and meet god in the pages.
